Hi everyone! Happy June! We’ve finally made it to the hot months! Wooo! I hope you’re all starting to enjoy the warm and awesome weather wherever you are in the world — I know I certainly am! The patio writing spot has been dusted off, the bugs have been purged, and the cold drinks have been prepared for another summer in the sun! More Starbreaker Releases and News!

So as I’m sure you can all see on the list here – there is a lot of Starbreaker on it and I am happy to say that’s because Volume 4’s rough draft is now complete with all the post production stuff to start later this month! That also means that this month’s major focus is going to be planning out Starbreaker: Volume 5 and getting right into it so we can keep our lightning quick pace going for this series. But if there is anything more exciting Volume 4 being finished this month – it’s gotta be Volume 3’s upcoming release on June 24^th!

Yes, you read that right! Starbreaker: Volume 3 is not only ready and available for pre-order, but it’s coming hot on the heels of Volume 2 and we really hope that you enjoy it when it lands! A New Project!

Now I’m sure that sharp eyes can see on the list, or may already have seen the news elsewhere. But in case you haven’t – I am happy to announce that I have signed a brand new series with Aethon Books for an Elden Ring meets Dragon Age Dark Progression Fantasy tentatively titled ‘Requiem’. (For those of you who have been following closely – this is essentially the ‘rebirth’ of the Scion of Magic story with a new vision!) If all goes well with my plans for the year, I hope to start writing this series this fall as soon as I have the Starbreaker series wrapped up with Volume 6 with the goal of the first Requiem book to be published in early 2026 and onwards.

As a teaser of what to expect though – I’ve prepared a blurb for you all to enjoy.

Well, I sure think so and can’t wait to get to it! In the meantime though, I am going to be turning all my efforts to keep grinding away on Starbreaker, Ascend Online, and everything else to make sure my plate is clean by the time I get there! Starbreaker Continues!

I know I probably sound like a broken record at this point, however at the same time I know that many of you are looking for this update right off the bat, it’s been another month of steady chugging for Starbreaker! I’ve finally got some hanging edits and rewrites done for Starbreaker 3 and I am fully into Volume 4 now and hope to have it polished off in the next couple months. In the meantime, I do hope that you all enjoy the big thing coming out this month – that being Volume 2’s release and Volume 3’s pre-order!

In case you missed it last month or are coming in late to the series, Volume 2’s pre-order is already up and will be releasing on May 13^th in all formats! If you want to have it in your hands the moment it comes out, then you’ll want to head over to Amazon and Audible to snag it right now!

AF2, Scion, AsO, and more

But while Starbreaker took on a huge chunk of my focus this month, rest assured that I haven’t forgotten about these other projects! This month I managed to finally polish off the new/revised outlines for all three of these books and I am itching to get them into my (and Harmon’s) schedule. As it stands now with my overall schedule, I’ll likely be trying to get Scion of Magic done first, as I’ve got essentially a full book already written for it and just need to reorder/rewrite stuff, then I’ll circle back to AsO immediately after that. If all goes well, I am hoping that I’ll be able to finish each of these by the end of the year and get them into your hands as soon as possible after that!

In addition to all of this, I’ve got a couple of smaller projects that I am hoping to be able to finally share this month for a few laughs and some excitement at what’s to follow! Comic Issue #2 is finally going out!

I know it’s been a long stretch in waiting for this issue, but I am happy to say that the comics for the AsO Issue #2 Kickstarter are all going out this month! We truly appreciate all of your patience in recent months as we finalized things here and I can’t wait for you all to see what we have in store for you all! Keep an eye on your mailboxes over the next few weeks for the packages to arrive!

Back to Tamriel, er I mean, Expedition 33, um, I mean, back to work I go!

By now I have no doubt that you guys know about the distractions games that arrived this last week, and I gotta say that I’ve absolutely been roped in as well! Both have been absolutely huge blasts of fun to say the least and highly recommend both if you’re looking for something to escape into!

Starbreaker: Volume 1 is out and Volume 2 is on the horizon already!

It’s been a month since the official release of Starbreaker and things have gone awesomely since! Thank you all who took a chance on the series! It’s been fantastic to hear how much you all enjoyed it and how excited you are to hear what happens to Sylvas and the others next, which I am happy to say you won’t have to wait long for!

That’s right! Volume 2’s pre-order is already up and will be releasing on May 13^th in all formats! If you want to have it in your hands the moment it comes out, then you’ll want to head over to Amazon and Audible to snag it right now!

And while we’re celebrating Starbreaker, Volume 3 is now finished!

It’s taken a bit longer than I had originally hoped to get sorted, but I am happy to announce that Volume 3 of Starbreaker is also officially finished and delivered for production! Even better than that, it means that the serial will be resuming as soon as I can figure out how the schedule will look like for the next several months!

So What’s Next Now?

Well, Starbreaker: Volume 4, of course! In fact, I’ve already managed to get through the planning process and even managed to get few words in on it this month! More than that too, we are now officially back full steam into the writing and planning process after clearing out our immense backlog of editing. That means that I plan to be devoting all my energy to figuring out Scion of Magic, getting the next Ascend Online ready, while pushing forward on the next round of co-writes with Alex and Harmon. With luck, we’ll be able to keep a strong and consistent pace for the rest of the year without another massive collision of projects finishing all at once.

Getting Ready For The Big Day – Starbreaker Is Coming

These words pretty much sum up the entirety of the month’s focus for me this update! Pretty much everything for this month was centered around getting Starbreaker Volume 1 ready for it’s release this coming month – and boy was there a ton of stuff to do! From cover updating, to pre-orders, to website updates, me and the team were busy pretty much non-stop with all of the small behind-the-scenes stuff that it takes to get ready for big (or what we hope will be) launch like this!

But that also means that the Starbreaker Pre-order is now live!! If you haven’t grabbed it just yet, you can find it over on Amazon or Audible! If you’re looking to snag it on Kindle Unlimited – the book will be releasing on March 4^th!

In any case, because of all of this planning, there just wasn’t all that much forward progress as much as I would have liked in terms of new writing, but with the short month and the time that we had to work with, that just couldn’t be helped.

But Little Progress Isn’t No Progress

The sharp eyed readers here will notice a bunch of new items on the update list, plus the return of an old problem child! Starting from the top – I did manage to get a great deal of planning on for Starbreaker 4 which I will (hopefully) be zooming onto full steam this month! To that end as well I am working on getting Ascend Online 6 planned out so I can start it as my ‘secondary’ project and ideally work it in parallel with Starbreaker. I’m not sure yet how that will work out, but I do want to forewarn everyone who is following Ascend Online that this and subsequent books are likely going to be on the shorter side when compared to the previous novels.

This is mostly because in recent years I’ve started planning and writing my novels in a much tighter fashion and I’ve found that just works for my process so much better than it has in the past with my larger, chunkier novels. Beyond that too, there are unfortunately the financial considerations here as well – big books are simply more expensive to produce when it comes to time, audiobook costs, and physical books cost. In any case, my goal is to still deliver super fun and satisfying experiences for you all with the added benefit of the last couple books in the series coming out much quicker than they would otherwise.

Lastly on our list here is the reappearance of Scion of Magic! I’ll be honest here – this book has been a struggle, if only because how experimental it is for me in terms of writing and scope. I’ve been way out of my comfort zone for this series and it has shown in every draft so far. After sitting and mulling over all the feedback that you’ve all given me, I think I have new track to take on this story, one much closer to the style I’m used to writing, and I’m looking forward to returning to it when time permits. Since I have a great deal amount of content written for this, I’ll likely work on it intermittently alongside AsO and Starbreaker, but I have no reasonable timeline as to how this will look just yet.

Oh, And Also – I’m Travelling Again This Month!

For the first time ever, I am heading out west this month as I go over to San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference (GDC)! Truly I don’t know what to expect while I’m down here – but if you know me, you know my passion for all things video games! I’ll be down in the area networking, learning some new skills, and eagerly looking to see what new things are coming out in the gaming world! If any of you happen to be in the area or see me at the conference, feel free to say hi!

A Month of Delivery!

Much like last month was a month of polishing, January was a month of handing in projects for me! I am happy to say that as of this writing, we have officially finished four books to start the year off, a record that my sanity hopes we never meet or break again. But in any case, I am happy to say that Starbreaker 3, Aetherforged 1, Paragon 4, and Blood and Gold, are all either essentially finished and/or are off to their respective publishers and editors for the next steps in their journey. At the moment it’s still early to pin down release days for most of these – but as soon as we have something solid, I will you know!

So does that mean your plate is empty now, Luke?

Actually, yeah, it does! And believe me, that’s a really, really, weird feeling that I will spending the next week enjoying while I am off on an awesome beachfront vacation with my family! (In fact, by the time you read this, I’ll have been enjoying it for a few days already!) In any case, my empty plate is going to be filled with a heap of rest and relaxation over the first week or so of February before I get back home and back to work.

Then, once I’m back to the word mines, I’m planning on hopping straight onto Starbreaker 4 while splitting my remaining time between Ascend Online 6 and attempting to get Scion of Magic back on track. At the moment I don’t know how any of that will look like in practice, but I am particularly excited to get back into the Ascend Online universe and get you all that next book before the year is out!

In the meantime though, please send good vibes my way as I get some rest in along with plenty of sun to recharge my batteries for the rest of the year to come!

A Month of Polishing

Starting off with our regular update – December was a month of polishing and finishing as whole heap of projects wrapped themselves up to end the year on a high note! Over this last month I was super busy closing out the Starbreaker 2 edit as well as combing through Paragon of Time (Book 4), Immortal’s Ascent: Blood and Gold (Book 4) and Aetherforged Book 1. I’m super happy to say that all three books are progressing well as a whole! So well in fact that I was even able to find some time to work on Starbreaker 3 which if my luck continues to hold out, will be done by the end of the month!

That said however, I still have a fair bit more work to do between these projects as they advance through the post-production stages and I expect this month will be another busy catch-all kind of month as we get them not only finished, but I also get myself ready for vacation come the end of the month! Yes, that’s right! I’m taking another stretch of time off at the end of January to leave the cold winters of Canada to visit the tropics with my family, and let me tell you as I looking ahead to the cold weather forecasted here next week – I just can’t wait for it!

But while my mind might already be on a nice, bright, beachfront vacation, it’s already thinking ahead to the year to come – and boy is there a lot on the horizon to look forward towards.

I’m Not Kidding, Come Take A Look At What My 2025 Is Going To Look Like

As with all my updates of this nature, I’ll preface this section with a general warning – This projected timeline will probably change. In fact, it’s probably already changed by the time you read it. Regardless, I still think it’s useful for you all to know what’s coming and a general timeline of when to maybe expect it!

Dang, that’s a heck of a lot isn’t it? I sure think so! I’ll admit my heart was pounding as I wrote that list, thinking that there must have something been I’ve double counted, but to my calendar’s (and my) terror, I didn’t. In fact – I left Paragon 4 and 5 off that list, which likely won’t see 2025 publishing dates, despite Book 4 being finished and Alex and I starting book 5 soon.

In any case, if things even work out about half way – it’s going to be an absolutely crazy year publishing wise and I am all for it! I just cannot wait to see what you all think about the new series I’m starting as well as all the other sequels coming down the line.

The Busy Doesn’t Stop!

As it usually happens when a wave of projects all come to an end at once, it’s been a busy month of post-production stuff as well as prepping the next projects to follow them. For this month that had me working on Starbreaker 2’s edits after they came back as well as starting on both Ascend Online: Age of Heroes and Scion of Magic’s outline – Though in this case of Scion of Magic…this is a complete reset and reoutline.

After listening to all the feedback you all gave me for the web serial I’ve decided to nuke and completely restart the story on the account that it simply wasn’t working the way that I’d hoped. It’s a bit of frustrating thing to have to do considering how much I’d written, but I am certain it’s the right thing to do to bring the best story possible to all of you in the end. On the positive side though, I get to jump back into Ascend Online much sooner than I’d expected to, which is a net positive in my mind!

Because of this, I expect my efforts for the next few months to be divided between Starbreaker Volume 3 and Age of Heroes on the day to day writing front, and Paragon 4 and Aetherforged 1 (Formally titled Deck of Destiny before Harmon and I changed the name!) on the post-production of side of things once they are finished (then of course the pre-production side of things as we move onto the next books there too).

Much of the next releases will depend on how quickly we can get the audiobooks recorded, however for 2025 our (hopeful) release list for the year is: Paragon 3 & 4, Aetherforged 1, Starbreaker 1-3, Ascend Online: Age of Heroes, and Immortal’s Ascent 4-6. Now I’m sure that something will go wrong with this plan at some point, but I’m hoping that it at most effects a book or two with the rest arriving on a predictable schedule!

As a whole though that locks in the next few months of work pretty solidly for me so we can hit all of those deadlines and milestones! I can’t wait to hear what you all think of all these books when they finally come out! It’s Been A Crazy Stretch This Last Month!

Oh boy, where do we start here? Well first off – we had a bunch of releases last month! We finished off the Hat Trick series with the arrival of Top Hat and we also had the launch of Immortal’s Ascent 3 – Blade and Banner! Thank you to everyone who supported both releases! If you haven’t by chance taken a look either of those two series, then today is always a good day to remedy that! I have no doubt that you’ll love either of them!

Beyond the barrage of new releases, we have been hard at work on the writing front! I am happy to announce that Starbreaker Volume 2 is now finished and off into editing! But more exciting than just that you can all look forward to Volume 2’s web serial continuing on November 4^th for Patreon and website readers and November 6^th for free readers! Even better, Starbreaker Volume 1 is still available – completely for free – for the next couple of months! So if you’re interested in reading the latest series I’ve been working on, now is great time to check it out either on Royal Road or over on the Starbreaker page of my website!

But That’s Not All – More Ascend Online Coming!

In addition to kicking off this month with Starbreaker I am happy to announce that Ascend Online: Threads of Fate will be finally launching in eBook on Amazon this November 5^th! I know that this has been a long time in coming and I am eager to hear what you all think about the story! If you haven’t pre-ordered the book just yet and you’re interested in doing, head on over to Amazon and make sure it’ll be in your kindle soon as it launches!

So What’s Next After All That?

With all the releases and Starbreaker Volume 2 now finished, I am expecting to spend the rest of the month doing planning and outlining for the next books of Ascend Online and Starbreaker as well as polishing off Paragon 4 and Deck of Destiny 1! I’m not quite sure yet on how this will break down time wise, but given the sheer number of moving pieces that I have for all of this, I am expecting that Scion of Magic is going to fall by the wayside for a bit longer. I know this might disappoint some readers that were following it closely in serial format, but I need to do a bit of juggling to set up the next couple projects before I can get myself properly into ‘Story Mode’ again. With luck this will be a relatively quick and easy process, but it’s still a bit too early to say. As always I’ll be sure to give plenty of updates as things reach a polished and finished state!

That said however, if you are looking for a true sneak peek of everything I’m doing, there is no better place than my Patreon to find it!

Getting Back To Work!

Much like August, September was largely a month of rest with me continuing my vacation! During that stretch I mainly worked on Starbreaker 2 with Scion of Magic and other projects taking a bit of a backseat. However with the end of Book 2 in sight, I am eager to jump back into SoM to see if I can also finish off by the end of the year. Beyond that – Harmon and Alex have been making awesome progress with DoD and Paragon 4! Our plan is to have Paragon 4 done sometime this month, with DoD to be in a similar state by the end of the year.

That Said However – We Have A Delay For The Comic Book

Unfortunately we have had some unexpected delays come up for finishing off Issue #2 of the Ascend Online Comic Series and need to push our delivery of the comic into November. The Team and I are very sorry about this delay, however we think this is the best course to make sure that you all get the best quality comic in the end! We’ll be sure to post updates as the final pieces of the comic come together, so stay tuned!

On The Positive Side –  New Releases Are Coming, Today In Fact!

That’s right! We’ve finally new books to be published starting this month and next! Beginning first with today, we have Top Hat, the last and final book of the Hat Trick series releasing today! If you haven’t managed to start the series yet then today is a great day to so do! Hop on over to Amazon or Audible and grab it now!

Past that, later this month we will be releasing Book 3 of the Immortal’s Ascent series, Blade and Banner, on October 15^th with Ascend Online: Threads of Fate next month on November 5^th! To make things even better on top of that – the Ascend Online series will also be returning to Kindle Unlimited later this month as well, so if you’ve been looking at catching up in preparation for book 5, you’ll have your opportunity soon!

Coasting Strong Into Vacation

So as I’ve mentioned last month, I was planning on taking some time off for August and September, and I am happy to say that I am doing that right now! Most of August leading up to my break has been wrapping up the final bits and pieces that were still on my plate – Cover Arts, Editing, Starbreaker 1, Scion of Magic, along with progress on Starbreaker 2! I am happy to say that everything has gone super stellar over the last while and I am now fully coasting on my break for the next while!

For the month of September I plan to mostly keep up with Starbreaker 2’s writing and enjoy my break otherwise. That said I am ‘hoping’ that I’ll be done or nearly done the first draft of Starbreaker 2 by the end of the month so that we can get that off into editing ASAP and I can pick back up on Scion of Magic again.

Speaking of October though, we will be celebrating the launch of Top Hat, the last and final book of the Hat Trick series come October 1^st! If you haven’t managed to preorder that book just yet, then hop on over to Amazon or Audible and do so today!

A Month of Small Details

Now that’s a bunch of things on there, isn’t it? To start off – this was a largely a month of small details and projects in addition to the launch of Starbreaker and Scion of Magic in serial format…so busy in fact…that I’ve already fallen behind in my Scion of Magic writing (doh!), but not for a bad reason! In fact, the reason my entire month ended up a little squirreled was because of the awesome feedback that all the awesome serial readers sent my way for both of the two books which resulted in me taking a pause to comb through both stories in a bit of a victory lap to touch it up with clarity and some edits. So thank you all for that! With this last pass done, I am hoping to shift my attention more fully towards Starbreaker book 2 and Scion of Magic again to make some more headway on the both of those for the month of August!

Ascend Online: Threads of Fate eBook Version Finally Has An Amazon Release Date!

I know that we were on a journey with this series and it’s Yonder exclusivity, but I am happy to announce that we finally have a date for when it is going to end – that being November 5^th – which is the day that Threads of Fate will launch over on Amazon for all of you Kindle readers! I am also super happy to mention too that the series will be returning to Kindle Unlimited as well!

However with that transition coming back towards Amazon, I want to say thank you for all of you who followed me over to Yonder to try the platform out there! I truly appreciate the support I got there for the books and it is making me very excited to get into book six as soon as I can!

So I’ve Got Some Vacation Planned

Every year I like to take a chunk of time off to rejuvenate and this year that time is going to be coming up in August and September! For the first half of vacation is going to be some well deserved R&R and for the second half it’s going to be to dive in and enjoy the next World of Warcraft expansion – The War Within.

In general these breaks shouldn’t affect the majority of my overall production save that regarding Scion of Magic, which I’ll be pausing to ‘free’ up some time while I enjoy breaks. Regardless I will make it a point to update this serial as often as I can, but it will likely be as single or multiple chapters dropped at once with no warning or schedule. Starbreaker on the other hand I expect to continue during this second vacation stretch just to make sure we’ve got book 2 ready for you all to enjoy before all of the book 1 chapters run out.

Beyond that – I am toying with the idea of streaming parts of my experience while I dive into The War Within – so if you’re at all interested in seeing that, let me know and I’ll make it a point to post whenever I am planning on going live!

My Newly Refreshed Website Is Live!

To kick things off this month, I am super happy to announce that my website has undergone a full revamp and is now live for all of you to see! Not only is it freshly facelifted, I am happy to announce that my store is back as well! For those of you who have been asking about Posters, prints, and other merch from my series, you can buy them again! However that isn’t the only piece of exciting news I have to share because today I am happy to announce that I am debuting a brand new web serial section to my website where you will be able to read all of my web serials – for free!

That’s Right – It’s happening! Starbreaker Is Finished And The Web Serial Is Now Starting!

Now I know I’d had a ton of hype about this over the last few months, but I am happy to announce that Starbreaker is now polished and sent off for audiobook production! (Release details TBD – but we’re aiming for Feb/March of 2025!) This book was a blast to work on from start to finish and I am so excited to hear what you all think of it – and as it happens that is going to be sooner than usual!

And that’s because starting TODAY the Starbreaker web serial is now Live on Royal Road, Patreon, and my Website with its first 10 chapters – all for free with more coming three days a week every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until the story is done!

Of course, like all running serials these days I also have the option for all who are interested to be able to subscribe either to my Patreon or my Website to be able to read up to three weeks (9 Chapters!) ahead of the free chapter posting.

Going Forward

With the launch of the serials, this marks a bit of a transition point as to how things I will be delivering my solo ‘Luke Chmilenko’ content. For my solo series, that being Starbreaker, Scion of Magic, Ascend Online, and eventually ‘Oops, I Was Accidentally Transported To A Fantasy World And Taught Dragons About Capitalism’, they will all be offered as web serials first before being published, allowing those who want to read them far in advance of official Amazon/Audible publishing.

Wherever possible/applicable I will try to avoid stubbing for as long as I can, however with Kindle Unlimited being a core part of my earnings, eventually the free chapters will need to come down to satisfy Amazon’s requirements. I’ll do my best to communicate this as best as possible so people aren’t surprised, but I want to be upfront about this.

I also want to be upfront with my planned ‘break weeks’ for each serial. These are being built in from the start to help manage my mental and physical health long term. Writing at the pace I do isn’t always sustainable, especially with the quantity of projects I have beyond it (and also the fact that I enjoy seeing my family as well as playing video games). These break weeks, staggered for each serial, is to make sure that I can either catch up if I fall behind, or offer me a chance to rest on a story if I need to.

In addition to all of this, I am also going to be trying something new as we go back into web serials, and that is offer native subscriptions on my website for those who like to read advanced chapters, bypassing Patreon entirely. While I am also going to mirror all my serial content on Patreon, my goal in setting up something on my website to make myself as platform independent as possible and give you, the readers, the best value possible in the long term. (And also to offer those of you who do not or cannot use Patreon a way to subscribe to me!) There’ll be growing pains as we figure all of this out, but I have no doubt that we’ll land on something that works out brilliantly in the end.

As for cowritten content – nothing will change in this regard, the books will still be published directly to Amazon and Audible as soon as they are completed and barring special cases, will not be featured on my Patreon/Website.
