Hi Everyone!

In what feels like a blink of an eye, another awesome year has passed us by and here we are starting fresh again in January for a hopefully wonderful 2020! I know I haven’t posted too much here on the website (something I hope to fix up going forward this year!) but in a traditional fashion I wanted to do an end of the year update to outline where things are in my various projects and life. So here we go with a 2019 wrap up!

I’m a dad now!

I am not sure how many of you might have been following me on my Facebook page where the original update was made, but in case you haven’t – as of December 6th I am now officially a father! My wife and I have recently welcomed our first child last month named Anastasia Sophia Chmilenko and we are now a family of three! Woo! We are still all in the process of figuring out the new addition to the household, but things have been going extremely since and everyone is healthy and happy. Being a dad is going to be a super exciting adventure and I can’t see what it brings for the year to come!

Ascend Online: Glory to the Brave

Okay – now that we’re past the big ticket personal stuff, I know that you all have at least two questions on your mind – the first being ‘Luke, where and when is the next AsO book?!’ and ‘Luuuuuuke, it’s been nearly two years since Legacy of the Fallen! WTF are you doing all this time?!’

Am I wrong? Probably not.

To the answer them both as easily as I can – it’s coming together slowly. I’ve been working on it full tilt as hard as I can, but unfortunately, writing is hard, or rather this next book is for me. It is both a combination of the issues that I have outlined in my older post here, as well as a case of chasing perfection. I want to bring the best book I possibly can to you all and unfortunately that has proven to be a bit harder this time around and has left me backtracking a bit more often than I’d like to fix perceived story issues.

I like to think that going back and fixing these issues have made for a better story for you all to enjoy, but the toll that it has taken on process has been obvious. I feel I’ve made great strides in getting the book sorted out since I’ve decided to split it in two and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to use that freedom to finish off the story sooner rather than later. Regardless of all that however, I am hoping that in the coming months of this year I’ll be able to have a more regular update schedule here on this site so I can keep everyone informed of my progress and perhaps put on a level of accountability to myself here. I want this book out as much as you all do, but most importantly, I want it to be awesome so you all love it when its finally released.

The Shattered Reigns – A Mark of Kings

A Mark of Kings was my first co-writing project done with the awesome Bryce O’Connor and I am so happy to say that it turned out amazingly! It was my first foray into non-litrpg Epic Fantasy and I happy to say that it was an overwhelming success. Bryce and I had no idea of what to expect when we first put our heads together for this project, but now with us both looking back at the year that was, we are absolutely floored to see that book has managed to garner over 800 reviews on the Amazon store in its first 7 months of life – beating out the entirety of the Ascend Online series easily. Not only that, but the book has also managed to clean up on the audiobook front as well, becoming the best overall selling book in my catalog to date.

Moving forward into this year, Bryce and I are looking to continue working on the series and get book 2 out ASAP in both print and audio. At the moment though it is too early to say when the book will be ready, save for that we’re aiming for late spring at the earliest, but most likely sometime in the summer.

I know that last year I spoke about this project with a fair amount of excitement – and I did manage to get a fair amount of work finished on it while working on Ascend Online – this project is largely on the back burner for the time being until Glory to the Brave is finished. Once I am finally caught up and finished with GttB I am hoping to devote myself for 3 straight books in the Starfall series which I will likely release back-to-back-to-back. I do have some non-standard publishing opportunities that I am looking to explore with this series, however I have yet to reach a formal deal with the publisher I am speaking to. Once a deal is finally inked with regards to this project, I’ll be sure to elaborate more!

More Updates To Come!

Now in closing here, I am hoping to stay much more engaged here on my site than I have been in the last year – I’ve made a point to keep my newsletter engaged on a monthly basis and there is no reason why I can’t extend that over to here! So instead of doing a nice long farewell until the next year-end I’ll instead leave off with a “See you in February!” where I hope to have a nice writing update on how Glory to the Brave is coming together!

Until then, thank you all for your support and I hope you’re having a great start to 2020!

  1. Congrats on becoming a father! Thanks for the update and I’m really looking forward to the next Ascend Online book. Happy 2020 🙂

  2. First of all, congratulations on becoming a father! That’s really exciting news! I think it’s safe to say you have a lot going on right now. Pressure from the fandom, trying to satisfy your own high standards, being a new dad, and a ton of other stuff I’m sure you didn’t mention. It doesn’t bother me that the book (Glory to the Brave) isn’t out yet, or that it might take several more months. Because you write stories that are worth waiting for. Thanks for the update Luke, I look forward to seeing what comes next.

  3. Thanks so much Chad! I hoping to do the best that I can do with the book! Hopefully you’ll enjoy it once it’s ready! 🙂

  4. Dude, just finished the current Ascend Online series, I LOVED IT. So much in fact a quick Google search later and I was happy to find your site. Needless to say I subscribed to your newsletter and am eagerly awaiting the next TWO BOOKS. I’ll probably be checking out Mark of Kings next. You’ve instantly become one of my all time favorite authors. Thank you, congratulations on becoming a father and a belated Happy New Year!

  5. Awesome! I am so happy to hear that you have enjoyed the series so far – and I do hope you enjoy A Mark of Kings if you give it a shot! Thank you so much for all of the well wishes too! 😀
